AIS Research Lab
AIS Research Lab is the interdisciplinary research group of the architectural practice Architecture Innovation Studio, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, architecture, urbanism, engineering, history, theory, and digital fabrication.
AIS Research operates across scales, from material and building systems to cities, and territories, combining computational methods with architectural knowledge, historical research, critical theory, and design experimentation.
The group therefore operates as both a research laboratory and a design practice, developing knowledge through projects and developing projects through research.
The group provides research services for organisations working across architecture, engineering, urbanism, and design.
UK Future Built Environment Initiative
Preparing the UK for the built environment of 2035–2040.
The UK Future Built Environment Initiative is an independent platform exploring how architecture, engineering, construction, technology, education and public policy must evolve to prepare the United Kingdom for 2035–2040.
We bring together emerging professionals, established practitioners, universities, industry, technology leaders and policymakers to examine the forces that will shape the next generation of the built environment.
How should the UK built environment look like in 2035?
The decisions we make today will define the places, buildings, infrastructure and communities of the next generation.
1. AI & Automation
How artificial intelligence, robotics and digital construction will transform design and delivery.
2. Climate & Net Zero
How the UK can move from carbon reduction towards climate-resilient places and buildings.
3. Housing & Cities
How we should rethink housing, density, affordability and urban growth.
4. Skills & Education
What architects, engineers and construction professionals will need to know in 2035.
5. Advanced Construction
Off-site manufacturing, robotics, new materials and industrialised construction.
6. Planning & Policy
How regulation and planning need to evolve alongside technological and environmental change.

The UK Future Built Environment Report
2027, First Edition.
Annual research on the forces shaping architecture, construction and the built environment towards 2035–2040.
Each year, the report will bring together research, expert perspectives, emerging technologies and industry evidence to identify the opportunities and challenges facing the UK's built environment.
